Birmingham’s own Kyle Kimbrell is no stranger to the stage. Before setting out on his own, Kyle spent his teenage years lending his talents to area bands like American Animal and Solomon Grundy. In 2015, Kyle hunkered down to make a record that showcased his own strengths as a songwriter.
Wrestling with themes of love, gratitude, and heartbreak, Kyle crafted a collection of songs that conveyed the dreams and reservations of a young man ready to give his best to rock ‘n’ roll.
A couple of sessions at Dial Back Sound (owned by Matt Patton of The Drive By Truckers), produced the 4-song EP, Lazy Bones – a collection of acoustic driven folk rock tunes built upon backbeat percussion, melodic guitar riffs, and textural washes of pedal steel guitar.
For his newest EP, Nobody’s Fool, Kyle presents his heavier, grittier side - moving away from the singer-songwriter vibe of Lazy Bones towards a swampier rock sound.
He returned to Dial Back Sound and the result is a ballsy, guitar-driven romp that nods to early Soundgarden, Neil Young, and the Rolling Stones’ Muscle Shoals Sound Studio records.
Now in 2018, Kyle is hitting the road in the wake of Nobody’s Fool.
Meeting by chance at Mauds Coffee Shop in Gainesville, Florida the ghostly shades of George Harrison and John Lennon came up with a foolproof plan. Employing a sitar-shaped time machine designed by the engineers at Area 51, they kidnapped Wayne Coyne and headed back in time to 1968, where, during a marathon meditation session on a mountaintop in the Appalachians lead by Gram Parsons, they recruited Iggy Pop as Paul McCartney’s stunt double. Paul was so busy writing a song called “Teddy Boy” that he didn’t even notice that the others had left without him. With a stop in 1973 to steal Neil Young’s guitars, they journeyed back to the present day, where they set up shop in Brian Wilson’s attic. Now relocated to a basement in Birmingham, Alabama, they are churning out thrashing psychedelic pop under the alias RESULTS OF ADULTS like there’s no tomorrow.
