Pompano
is a one-of-a-kind dog! One of his most unique characteristics is a
black stripe that runs all the way down his back. When he is on alert,
the hairs in his stripe stand straight up and he resembles a Rhodesian
Ridgeback. His head looks like a mix between a Bull Terrier and a Lab,
and his body resembles that of a Pit Bull Terrier. His color is best
described as a chocolate-gray and he has a white patch in the shape of
a butterfly on his chest!
As of June 2010, Pompano is around two years old and weighs 57 lbs. He
loves to run around in the backyard, but also likes to lie on the deck
and watch what's going on. He especially likes to watch squirrels and
birds, and then take off after them at full speed. He loves to play
with adults, kids, and other dogs, whether they are bigger than him or
smaller, and some of his favorite things are Nylabones, rawhides,
stuffed animals, Pupperoni, cow hooves, Kongs, basically anything he
can chew on! He knows many obedience commands Sit, Down, Stand, Stay,
Spin, Leave It, Scoot Back, and can even dance with you! He loves his
crate and knows to Kennel Up or Crate Up when it's meal time, or time
for his foster mom to leave for work. He is curious about cats, but as
long as the cat is dog savvy and will put him in his place, there are
no issues. He is housetrained and will alert to anyone coming towards
your door or your fence, he will see them and let you know. He does not
bark often but when he does, it is a deep bark and would be sure to
scare off any unwanted intruders.
In the late summer of 2009, a good Samaritan found Pompano outside an
office building in North Birmingham, scared, malnourished and with
wounds all over, weighing a mere 39 lbs. His rescuer had him fully
vetted, neutered, and nursed him back to health. He is now in a Bama
Bully foster home, safe and healthy, but he would love to have his own
forever home.
Pompano is working on his leash skills. He is learning not to pull and
not to pay attention to distractions while out on his walks. He is a
quick learner, and loves to be with people. Even though he still bears
a few scars from his past, he does not let that get him down. He is
extremely friendly and just wants to play and be loved. He is very
submissive and does not mind being handled. He is an excellent
companion pet and would do well with a family or with a single person
who has time to play with him and take him on a daily walk or jog.
Would you like to adopt Pompano and give him the loving wonderful home
he deserves?
