Mr. Motley is a young male American Bulldog mix, likely almost a year old. He has been neutered and is current on vaccinations and has been microchipped.

Motley tempted fate several times while courting a stray Mastiff/Shepherd mix named Maggie. He was witnessed crossing several high traffic roads and highways during his roaming days. Those days are over now, and although he succeeded (unfortunately) in seducing his now *wife* our desperation to help him has become overwhelming now that between Motley and Maggie, there are 12 more babies to find homes for.

Motley is a submissive, go with the flow type of guy, reserved and aloof until trust has been gained. He obviously was someone's pet when he wandered into our radar but apparently his previous owners made no attempt to find him.

Since being transferred into a good samaritan's care, he has blossomed, welcoming visitors he knows well with happy tail wags and grins. He accepts people he doesn't know well and with time and effort should bond closely to a new owner.

He eats up affection and shows his appreciation by giving nuzzles, kisses and offering his belly for rubs. We are not sure if Motley ever had the opportunity to play before, as he had to learn what toys were. He is making up for lost time and is extremely playful now.

Motley has done exceptionally well with children, particularly a preteen girl and a 6 year old boy. He plays gently and would benefit from having a child to romp with.

He is heartworm negative, on preventative and is up to date on shots. We do not know if he has ever lived indoors and it's doubtful, but this boy should do great given the care and attention he's been deprived for so long. He adores Maggie and they are closely bonded. Best case scenario is that he go to a home along with Maggie but a responsible, loving forever home is really what he needs above anything.

UPDATE JULY 8th, 2008:

Motley has been in a foster home for a couple of months and has been doing really great. He learned quickly the joys of sleeping on the bed and snuggling with his foster mom. He has not had any accidents in the home and even doesn't mind the indoor cats. He will, however, chase outdoor cats. He should do okay with dog savvy, indoor cats but we cannot guarantee that.

Motley is working on manners, he tends to jump up on his foster mom but we will be working on eliminating that and replacing that behavior with a default sit instead. If Motley is with us in the next couple of months, he will be enrolling in a group manners class.

Motley plays well with other female dogs and adores puppies. He is such a doll (a doll that snores) and we hope the right person steps up to offer this boy a safe, forever home that he so deserves.

UPDATE JULY 21st, 2008:

Motley has been moved into a foster home with a professional trainer along with Motley's two daughters, Lia and Skylar. He is definitely a loving dog and has come leaps and bounds since being on the streets.

He rides very well in the car, resting his head on your shoulders at times. He walks beautifully on a leash and responds well to his handler. He crates nicely, though he's still isn't too happy to go so he backs in. ;) But he's quiet and content in his crate.

Motley is very gentle with kids, he spent a day with a 10yr old boy and 8 yr old girl and he enjoyed their company, actually preferred to be near them rather than an adult. He spent a day also in the presence of two male dogs and a female. Motley was completely non-reactive to the males in passing or next to them in crates. He is very submissive and non-confrontational with other dogs.

He played fabulously with my female pit bull, very animated and appropriate. He was not over excited or inappropriate in anyway. He is now being fostered in the company of many dogs of various ages/breeds/size and doing very well.

Motley will make someone a wonderful pet. He is very handsome, easy going and a joy to be around. This is the dog that you could take anywhere. He'd do super in a home that spends a lot of time with him and he'll bond like glue.
